Skype Keeps Closing Itself

Itself

There a lot of debate on what precisely is causing the issue – some users are pointing fingers at the update function that’s closing Skype in order to update it, while others are suspecting. Ok i was on skype and it was working fine then it just shut itself down. I clicked the skype icon but it would not open at all. I unistalled skype and got the new one and now its downloaded when i try to login it says "skype has stopped working" then opens to a box saying "Skype has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. — is automatically lowered when they run certain games or programs, like Skype. While this can be incredibly frustrating, it’s not a bug. The act of Windows automatically reducing the volume of certain applications is actually the operating system trying to help you out. Here’s why it occurs and how you can politely decline Redmond’s assistance.

I just downloaded Windows 10 yesterday night and after using it for the first time this morning, I decided to try out Microsoft Edge. Whenever I open it from the app section or the bottom tab section, it shuts down automatically after two seconds. I don't so much as get an error message, it just closes as if I pressed the close button. However, when I ask Cortana to open up some sort of search, then the window works and stays open. Does anyone seem to know what the problem is? Thank you in advance. Once in edge set the start screen to bing and you be good to go.

Must have Skype installed for link to work. If that doesn't work, try pasting it into a chat using the Desktop version of Skype and click the link. I may have found a way to stop it from crashing, at least in my case. Skype has been stable for around 24 hours now after I've done this. Some time back I noticed that a new notification showed up in my notifications tab. If memory serves, it surfaced after a Skype update was installed and it never went away even after I clicked on it.

It looks like this:So, launched Skype and then quickly clicked on the Notifications tab to see a list of notifications before it crashes again. The 'Restart Tutorial' notification was there.

I then right-clicked on the Notifications tab and selected 'dismiss all' or 'accept all' or 'mark all as read', or something along those lines. The 'unread notifications' dot then disappeared from the Notifications tab. That's it.

It's been running ever since I did that. Maybe this is just a fluke, but it has crashed very consistently before within a few minutes and it's still up now. Time will tell, I guess.Maybe this will work for you as well, assuming your Skype runs long enough for you to be able to get to that tab and assuming you have a similar notification pending. If not, maybe the notification can be dismissed from the web version somehow.

Resetting or reinstalling doesn't work. I'm having the same issue. It either crashes immediately on startup or crashes a few minutes later just sitting there doing nothing. Same symptom, Windows 10 Skype app was opening and then immediately closing. I was google searching and came across this thread.

Poshcard's Log entry above told me where I should look.I was able to resolve this by taking ownership of and assigning the user full permissions to the system protected hidden folder C:program fileswindows apps. I then found three skype folders and renamed them with.old at the end ( actually i deleted 2, the third wouldn't let me so i renamed it). After that, Skype still showed in the apps list, so i uninstalled and reinstalled one more time and it worked (opened, asked for credentials, and then connected as normal).
